Jonquil

We have over 1,400 raw ingredients in our inventory, so, our options with ingredient focuses are broad.
Today, my mind is on all things Jonquil, such a stunning flower it makes a statement. Botanical name, Narcissus jonquilla L, it smells ethereal, is rich and tenacious, you could say that it is unforgettable. There is quite a lot of confusion about jonquils, daffodils and narcissus. Just to clarify, a daffodil is more delicate in scent and does not have the same impact as a jonquil. A Jonquil is a Narcissus. A daffodil is a Narcissus, but a jonquil is not a daffodil.
To go into the depths of jonquils and daffodils would take a lot more writing and maybe a few hours, because you would need to understand that there are well over 13,000 hybrids of daffodils and jonquils. Phew, now we have got that out of the way, well, kind of, botanicals are so amazing, yet complex and extremely fascinating. I’m not an expert on it, but it would be an interesting journal by following up with a botanist or horticulturist, which I happen to know of a few.
We have an amazing absolute from France, where it grows in the countryside. We use the absolute in small amounts, because of it’s tenacity, but it does add a beautiful depth to fine perfume. We do sell it as an Absolute. If you are looking for something special to add to your essential oil kits, this is one to get. Jonquil
The primary benefits for Jonquil are:
- Antioxidant properties – It does contain antioxidants and it can help protect the body from the effects of free radicals, pollutants and reduces oxidative stress.
- Respiratory health – Jonquil is used in aromatherapy, because it has been found to alleviate respiratory problems, such as congestion and coughing.
- Skincare – It is used in some skincare formulations due to it’s skin-soothing properties. It can moisturise and nourish the skin and assist with inflamed and irritated skin.
- Aromatherapy – Jonquil is also used for stress reduction, mood enhancement, promotes relaxation and brings a sense or tranquillity and security.
- Perfumery – Used extensively in fine perfume as a fixative, it adds a floral-green touch and gives a perfume a sense of depth.
We use Jonquil mainly for perfume at this stage, but in future, we will be using it some other products. Look out for the, can’t give away all of our secrets. You will know in good time.
