Volume 04 / Winter 2025

Welcome to Winter.

We can’t believe how fast winter has descended upon us. Winter is a time for cosiness, finding a warm spot to relax and read a good book.

Since our last update in April, we have been working on some projects and over the next few months we will be revealing some exciting news, but we can’t let you know yet, because things are still in the planning stages.

Mid May, we had the honour of welcoming Minister Jane Howlett to our workplace. This was a great conversation about business development, key challenges for small business, how we overcome these and community initiatives. Minister Howlett was very engaging and gave us a lot of great ideas and a different perspective on positive contribution. We really had a great visit, so thank you Jane.

In our last newsletter, we talked about the release of our Cigar perfumes, Fleur and Whisky are out and a couple of weeks ago we also released Cigar Bois, a darker woodsy type scent, with the composition including all of the spices you can imagine topped off with beautiful woods such as:  Black Agarwood (Oudh) and Red Cedar, we also use some delightful Opopanax which is a sweet Myrrh. This is a dazzling composition of scent, and we can’t wait for you to try it.

We would like to say a big thank you, to you, our beautiful customers and friends, we appreciate you supporting us on our journey and we wish for you all to have so much peace, love and joy in your lives.

Warmest Wishes & Many Blessings
The Malano Family xx

Maryka Malano - a glimpse behind the scenes

Since our last update about “The Scent of Tasmania” article published by Australian Geographic, we have had some good harvesting periods and it is looking as though we can release it earlier than 2028, we are delighted about that. All going well, we may bring it out in 2026, by the end of the year, but we will keep you posted on the progress of that.

It is curing beautifully. Masey has been working hard in the garden planting a vast array of natives and there are more to come.

Why stop now? Over the course of the next 6 months and leading into 2026, we have a lot to share with you about our direction moving forward.

Brand Tasmania Event

You may have noticed a recent addition on the bottom of our website. We are honoured to have been accepted as a ‘Proud Partner of Tasmanian’ with Brand Tasmania. We are extremely excited about this and look forward to working with them in future endeavours.

We had the privilege to be invited by Brand Tasmania to attend an event recently, partnered with RACT at Deep South Brewing. We listened to two very inspiring speakers, Christine Finnegan CEO of the Tasmania JackJumpers and Kath McCann General Manager of Marketing for the Tasmania Devils.

Both speakers were very thought provoking, and they spoke about multiple challenges relating to life, sport, the future of children’s sport in Tasmania and what it means to be Tasmanian.

We met some amazing people during the event as well, it was a great opportunity to connect with fellow business people and to top it all off, we had photos with Christine and a great chat afterwards, which came about by Tab, our fabulous Creative Designer being such a huge Jackie’s fan. Masey, very cheekily asked Christine for a photo and we all hit it off.

That was a night to remember, we had such a great time. So, we are thankful to Brand Tasmania and RACT for organising such an amazing event.

Inside the Cellar Door of Malano, wooden shelves are full of Malano products and several black tables placed in a U shape have Malano tote bags and books placed on top ready for the students in the perfume class to arrive.

Maryka’s Quirky Winter Warmer Recipe

Cauliflower, Banana & Potato Soup

I’ve decided to give you my recipe for a soup that I tend to make in the colder months, now before you dismiss it, try it out.

OMG!! Who uses banana in soup? Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. (it’s delicious!)

Ingredients:
1 Medium Onion chopped
2 (max) Mashed Bananas
6 Medium Potatoes, peel and chop
Garlic
- I don’t use it, but some people love garlic in their soup, so use at your own discretion
1-2 Tablespoons Butter. You can use other things, but butter is best.
4 Cups Chicken Broth. You can use any broth you choose, or if you have the time, add your own made stock.
1 teaspoon Black Pepper (halve it if you’re not a fan)
1 Tablespoon Salt of your choice. If you are on a salt reduced eating plan, please use at your own discretion.
A Sprig of your favourite herb like rosemary, or in our case coriander, we love eating it out of our garden!
Pinch Sweet Paprika
Heavy Cream

Method:
-
In a large saucepan, heat butter on medium and add the onions, sauté for a few minutes until translucent and not too brown. If you are using garlic, add this in next while making sure the heat is low as you do not want to burn your garlic and make it bitter.

- Add the broth/stock and stir.

- Add potatoes and cauliflower, bring to the boil. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer.

- Add salt & pepper, stir and cook for 20-35 minutes.

- Check the potatoes and cauliflower with a fork, these need to be cooked until tender.

- Add the mashed bananas. Allow to simmer for a further 10 minutes.

- Remove the saucepan from the heat, do not drain as you need to keep the stock.

- Use a stick blender until all is pureed together. If you only have a regular blender, please wait until slightly cooled before adding to your blender and pureeing to your desired consistency.

- Serve with your chosen herbs and a dollop of cream. If you’re watching your waistline, you could use crème fresh or goats cheese.

- Sprinkle on some of the sweet paprika to serve and viola! You have a beautiful hot winter soup ready in less than 45 minutes! You can also serve this with some hot bread or toast too if you want!

ENJOY!

note:
You can adjust the tickness depending on the size of potatoes you use, you can also change the ingredients or leave ingredients out and make it to your liking, but give it a go, we think you’ll be happy with the end result!
